Kalu Heenati rice has a long history of use in Sri Lanka. It was used during ancient times for ailments such as poisoning. Rice porridge was given to patients with snake venom as medicine due to its special properties that help to eliminate toxins. Kalu Heenati contains protein, fat, zinc and iron. The bark is red, and the bark of the same pod is white and black, making it very easy to spot a Kalu Heenati tree. The harvesting process takes 3 months.
