Experience:

You will start your tour at the Lavendish Beach Resort, Unawatuna, where you will be met by your guide at 0900 hrs. You will be provided with all the necessary equipment. If you are a diver certified by PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors), you may dive alone. However if you aren't you will have to go through the basic training session provided by our instructors and will be accompanied by them on your dive; regardless of experience. This is to give you a safe and memorable holiday experience.

Unawatuna has five main dive sites. Two of these are ship wrecks. The SS Orestes, which is also mistakenly called the 'Tango Wreck', is believed to have sunk in 1875 after it struck the Gindura Reef. This wreck is a popular site for beginning divers and holiday visitors. It lies 24 m deep and has many fish that live within it.

The SS Rangoon is a more scenic sight, although it is much deeper at 32 m. The wreck is that of a century old British steamer and lies in an upright position on a smooth sandy section of the sea floor. The wreck has a lot of colorful sea-life and is a great site to take underwater photos.

The others are reefs and rocky formations. The Napoleon Reef and Talpe Reef have some amazing and rare fish, as beautiful colorful corals that are really worth seeing. The final place known as 'Galu Gala' is a deep sea dive site that is still being explored, and will not be visited on this tour unless you are a certified diver diving independently. This site has many possibilities but not many details are known as of yet.

You may visit one or more of the first four dive sites in your two to three hour tour. A bottle of water will be provided to quench your thirst while engaging in this adventure sports activity. Your diving instructor will show and explain the best sights to you while you are underwater. The visibility is usually quite good, but it is to be noted that it is dependent on weather conditions. As such your tours will take place between November to April, when the weather has a higher chance to be clearer.
