Collection: Safari from Wasgamuwa

The Wasgamuwa National Park was initially declared to protect and offer a safe haven to the animals which were displaced during various development projects. Located about 225 km away from Colombo covering a land area of about 40,000 hectares, Wasgamuwa is nestled between the districts of Matale and Polonnaruwa. Displaying one of the highest biodiversity in the island with over 150 species of flora, reservoirs, rivers, forests as well as mammals such as the Sri Lankan elephant, sloth bear and leopard are seen roaming around. There are massive herds of elephants roaming the marshes that belong to the Mahaweli River area which is the longest river in Sri Lanka. You can also spot hundreds of species of birds, amphibians and reptiles while touring Wasgamuwa. The nearest town is Polonnaruwa which is about 10 km away while we can organize private safaris for you and your friends or family upon request.
